GASP

PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY
The GASP is a nonprofit, licensed after school program serving children in kindergarten through 5th grade at Grattan Elementary School. GASP believes that after school is an extension of the school day and that learning does not end when the academic day is over. GASP believes that working closely with the Grattan Elementary School day staff to ensure that each child’s needs are being met will help all children be more successful in school and life as they grow and move on from elementary school. GASP provides academic, enrichment and recreational activities for all children and tutoring on an as needed basis. GASP aligns its behavioral expectations and discipline with the Grattan Elementary School’s policies so that expectations for children are consistent though out the entire day.

GASP's goal is to provide a quality after school program for school-age children and their families and to nurture children so that they grow as individuals and learn to make sound decisions for themselves as a part of a supportive community.  We believe children learn and master new skills through a variety of experiences. Staff support and enhance the school day by providing and creating opportunities for children to learn and experience new things through physical activity, social experiences, and structured and free choice activities. The curriculum includes a variety of age and developmentally appropriate group and individual activities. GASP's supportive and encouraging staff strive to assist children in developing and maintaining a positive self-image and encourage children to take responsibility for themselves and their actions while learning social skills such as problem-solving and cooperation with others.
