Fun Run & Field Day - 5/23/13

Run & Raise for Fun!  The Grattan Field Day & Fun Run isn’t just a run to raise funds to meet the PTA’s annual budget and support Asante Foundation.  It’s a fun-filled day celebrating health, exercise and outdoor play. Anyone in the Grattan community is welcome to join. Pledges can be a fixed dollar amount in support of a student’s effort or simply a pledge to live a healthier life: eat more greens, walk to school, or get more sleep.

This is an event like no other at Grattan. Join the Fun!

What

Students run (or run/walk) as many laps around Grattan as possible in one hour—with DJ, “Philip Phun Zone”, water station, and raffle prizes to keep them going--finishing at Grattan Park with fresh fruit and healthy carbs courtesy of Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s, lunch (bring your own) and Field Day activities.

Where

Grattan Elementary and Grattan Park for Field Day.

When

Thursday, May 23rd. Fun Run starts at 9:45 a.m. Field Day wraps up at 1:00 p.m.

Why

It’s an exciting way to end the year. We’ll be moving our bodies with purpose to test our grit while raising money for two great causes: Grattan PTA’s final fund-raising needs, and a donation to Asante Africa’s fund to purchase math, science and English books for their primary school in Lengarde, Kenya.

Who

Your children. Their teachers. YOU! Anyone in the Grattan community is encouraged to run, fundraise or volunteer. All volunteers get a shirt, and we promise this will be one of the most fun events to volunteer for this year. (NOTE: siblings are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.)

What Should We Expect?

  • Parents must sign the PTA Parent’s Approval and Waiver for their children to participate.
  • Use the Pledge Form to ask friends and family to support your child’s run. Every child who turns in a pledge sheet earns a shirt (suggested donation $10). Shirts will be distributed on 5/23 in the students’ classrooms and should be worn for the run.
  • Fixed donations of support can be pledged online via PayPal or turned in on the day of the event. Postcards, which have been distributed or can be found in the office, can be used as tax receipts.
  • Classrooms that reach 100% participation in pledges get to visit the Blender Bike!
  • Pledge forms can be turned in at any time but will be collected on 5/23 during registration. Kids will get body-marked to get them in the spirit.
  • An “Energizer Rally” will warm-up the kids and kick the Fun Run off.
  • Music will be DJ’d by Grattan dad, Tim Dionne. The “Philip Phun Zone” will surprise them. “Keep-it-Moving!” raffle prizes will be awarded every 5 minutes. A water station with spray misters will keep them refreshed and encouraged. Roaming cheerleaders will encourage the kids at every turn. We’ll have safety monitors at every corner and on every block.
  • The run finishes at Grattan Park for food from Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s and Field Day fun. Remember those fun ‘old-school’ activities parents did growing up? Lots of those…
  • Stay tuned for activities in the weeks leading up to the run – go to school in sportswear day, making rally posters. This will be a great way to end the year.
  • We need lots of volunteers to pull this event off and make it really fun for all participants. Please let Christina Antipa know if you can volunteer.
